Browse by Genre
[was: A feature to allow users to browse artists by specific genres.]
E.G. - Say if I'm looking for new Progressive Metal bands that I've never heard before, I can type in Progressive Metal and the search engine would compile everything from tags or other data. Can be used for all genres of music.
Thanks for supporting this feature. We launched it last month in our web app. We hope you’re enjoying it.
All the best,
Zoë

Or how about on the mog ipad app? I really don't use the service when I'm sitting at my computer. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Sorry, but this is so high-level that it does me absolutely no good. I listen to very specific sub-genres, such as experimental dark ambient, death industrial, and neoclassical darkwave (at the moment), to name a few, so browsing by "Rock" is worthless... Been waiting for a very long time for a valuable genre browsing option from this service, and am very disappointed in this implementation. I still like MOG, but I was hoping for user-tagged genres like Last.fm has, which is the gold-standard for genre identification.

I am thinking of switching back to Rhapsody. I originally liked the expanded selection, but with an ability to search by genre or get band information, I am losing patients rather quickly.

This is ridiculous, why are there two different interfaces? I have to jump through hoops to get to the "old" interface to browse by genre and to browse playlists, but none of this is available in the web player interface. Doesn't make any sense to me.

This is much needed functionality especially for those that listen to all different types of music. That's why I use MOG! If I could browse by genre this would be perfect!

Where is this in the web player? I don't see this functionality at all. For example, I type "ambient" into the search and I can choose from bands, albums, tracks, and playlists that have this word in the title. This is a far cry from a directory of new and old ambient releases. Why can't we browse genres as in the iTunes store? It would be nice to get an answer and a timeline for implementation of this (very basic) feature. Thanks!

Search by genre would be a welcome addition. As an alternative, I use other search methods and copy the results to MOG. When searching by genre, Amazon is one of the best I have found.

Someone at mog finally told me that you can get browse by genre (which had been implemented in the old interface, but then taken out of the new interface) by going to mog.com/browse. It's still there, using the old interface. Why this can't be incorporated in the new interface, and why people from mog couldn't post this information here themselves, I don't know.

Glad this is started. Almost did not get MOG for the lack of this feature.

Is anyone at MOG going to respond? The last updated to this has been 5 months ago!! If mog isn't going to offer searching by genres soon or give some sort of update on the situation, I'm going back to spotify.

The browsing capability at mog.com/browse is a start ... but its not particularly useful since its only one level deep...One layer deep is completely inadequate since places all music within a genre in the same bucket. Does anyone really think all rock is the same, for example? Or that one layer of browsing helps users find new music?
Go look at rhapsody to see how it should be done .

I keep coming back to MOG on a free account to see if there has been any progress in searching by genre, and I really can't believe that there isn't - after talk about this being in the works for ages. Unless somebody is into Top 40 - Rhapsody and Spotify are infinitely better services. It is mind-boggling to me that this is not a part of the service, whereas even with free services - you have this...

Does "Started in web player" mean I am supposed to see something in the web player regarding genre sorting by now??? or just that things have started behind the scenes? Almost no one is offering genres (spotify doesn't implement it fully, rhapsody is old, sony music unlimited implements it great but their UI is awful imo, etc.). If mog had this and the API that is supposedly forthcoming...priceless.

I'm so confused as to why this isn't a basic feature.

This was actually one of the deciding factors when I was deciding between MOG and Rhapsody. I LOVED the genres and how informative Rhapsody was, but I ultimately decided to still go with MOG knowing I'd be missing out on that. If this happens, there's no way I'm changing services ever haha. I mosty use the mobile app, so I agree with others that it needs to be both web and mobile capable.
